The Schatz Center
Since 1989, the Schatz Center has been a leader in applied research and project development for clean and renewable energy.
Our portfolio includes microgrid development, off-grid solar product testing, offshore wind research, sustainable transportation design, carbon life cycle and land use studies, and planning and policy analysis for clean energy deployments around the globe.
We are located on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, California, and are affiliated with the College of Natural Resources & Sciences and the School of Engineering.

Coastal Community Perspectives on Offshore Wind: A Discussion of Emerging Themes (1/14/26)
Join the OSU and Schatz Center teams on Wednesday, January 14, from 5:30–7:30 PM at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka for an in-person presentation and discussion of interim findings from the Oregon State University-led study on offshore wind (OSW) development and community benefits agreements. Presenters will include Julia Bingham of Oregon State, and Tanner Etherton and Lauren Hart of the Schatz Center. This talk will share preliminary data from Humboldt area surveys and local interviews, and provide insights into other communities surveyed as part of the project.
- This event is free and open to the public; pizza and drinks will be provided while supplies last! Please note that the discussion will not be filmed or live streamed, although a summary of findings will be available in mid-2026. Student research internship with the CPUC
The California Public Utilities Commission, in partnership with the Schatz Center, is seeking to hire one student intern for spring semester who will work directly with the CPUC’s Demand Response (DR) team.
